IL POSTO, by Ermanno Olmi

Ciao a tutti, the next screening will be:
IL POSTO
by Ermanno Olmi, Italy 1961, 93 minutes.

Wednesday, March 7
7:00 pm
VVR, 2nd floor MLB

Synopsis:
"When young Domenico (Sandro Panseri) ventures from the small village of Meda to Milan in search of employment, he finds himself on the bottom rung of the bureaucratic ladder in a huge, faceless company. The prospects are daunting, but Domenico finds reason for hope in the fetching Antonietta (Loredana Detto). A tender coming-of-age story and a sharp observation of dehumanizing corporate enterprise, Ermanno Olmi’s Il posto is a touching and hilarious tale of one young man’s stumbling entrance into the perils of modern adulthood. "
(from the Criterion Collection presentation:
http://www.criterionco.com/asp/release.asp?id=194 )

Ennio Morricone received Honorary Academy Award

Ciao a tutti,
today is a special day:
An Onorary Award, an Oscar® statuette, has been given to Morricone at the 79th Academy Awards® presentation on February 25, 2007, “for his magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music.”

http://www.oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2006/06.12.13b.html

Ciao a tutti,
as you can read in his comment, our friend Pellicola suggested that we watch Il posto (1961) and I Fidanzati (1963) by Ermanno Olmi (see photo at the end of the page). We have both of them, luckily, released in the excellent Criterion Collection.
For sure, among the next screening we'll have La Ciociara (by Vittorio de Sica, 1960, see photo), then we could show one Olmi.
I think we have about 5 Wednesdays left...but Mondays are also availabe for us at the VVR...

Some reasons to love Ann Arbor and/or to love Italian Cinema

Ciao a tutti,
why don't you post your own "some reasons to love..." Ann Arbor or Italian Cinema? If you can not publish photos, why don't you send them to us, and we'll publish them with your name.
(If you send us photos you have found on internet, please don't forget to give us the url too)
fedcolle@umich.edu

If you read the Lettura on page 172 in "Insieme" you'll find a good starting point to get to know Italian cinema...

Have a great break (which in Italian is, BTW, "buone vacanze", it doesn't have anything to do with ..."rottura"...:-)
